Roberto Montenegro (born February 19, 1887, in Guadalajara, Mexico – died October 13, 1968, in Mexico City, Mexico) was a celebrated Mexican painter, muralist, and printmaker, recognized for his vibrant use of color, his unique approach to Mexican nationalism, and his significant contributions to modernist art in Mexico. Montenegro's work bridges the gap between the folkloric elements of Mexican tradition and the emerging avant-garde movements of the early 20th century.

Montenegro’s paintings often depict scenes of Mexican folklore, mythology, and historical events, rendered in rich, expressive colors and dynamic compositions. His use of bold hues and energetic brushwork creates a sense of movement and intensity, transforming traditional Mexican themes into dramatic, modernist works of art. His deep connection to Mexican culture is evident in his depictions of indigenous life, traditional festivals, and popular figures, which he infused with a contemporary artistic sensibility.
