Manuel González Serrano (born December 17, 1917, in Lagos de Moreno, Mexico – died May 15, 1960, in Mexico City, Mexico) was a Mexican painter and sculptor whose work remains a striking yet often overlooked contribution to Mexican modern art. Although less celebrated than his contemporaries, González Serrano developed a unique visual language that blended elements of surrealism, expressionism, and symbolism, creating haunting and deeply emotive pieces. His paintings are characterized by distorted human figures, melancholic atmospheres, and a sense of psychological tension. Using a rich, dark color palette and fluid brushstrokes, he conveyed themes of alienation, despair, and the human condition. His figures often appear disfigured or fragmented, evoking a sense of existential anguish and reflecting the emotional and social struggles of the time.
