SKU: ART054

Chucho Reyes (born José de Jesús Reyes Ferreira on October 24, 1880, in Guadalajara, Mexico – died August 15, 1977, in Mexico City, Mexico) was a Mexican painter, designer, and collector whose work bridged the gap between folk art and modernism. Known for his vibrant use of color, playful compositions, and celebration of Mexican popular culture, Reyes is regarded as a key figure in the development of 20th-century Mexican art.

His paintings are distinguished by their spontaneous, almost childlike style, featuring bold brushstrokes, simplified forms, and a rich, luminous palette. He often depicted roosters, horses, religious icons, and festive scenes, drawing inspiration from traditional Mexican crafts, such as papel picado, piñatas, and ex-votos. His works convey a sense of joy, nostalgia, and cultural pride, transforming everyday subjects into poetic visual expressions.
